A Family Project That Became a National Treasure

When Jack Boyd's 4th-grade daughter Steffy came home with a homework assignment — memorize the first 250 words of the Declaration of Independence — the usual techniques weren't working. So the Boyd family decided there had to be a better way.

They wrote a sing-along that helped Steffy learn faster and understand what the words truly mean. Steffy and Jack recorded The Declaration of Independence Song when Steffy was just 11 years old. They later added a shorter version, The Declaration Sing-Along, to help younger students during Celebrate Freedom Week.

Since 2001, over 50,000 students across America have sung these songs to learn the opening words of the Declaration of Independence. With America's 250th anniversary approaching, that mission has never felt more important.

Sung language is processed in more parts of the brain than spoken language, which means it's stored in long-term memory faster.
